Words of Ayn Rand

Like I said in yesterday’s blog, I am currently approaching the end of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, and I am extremely amazed at how closely Rand’s “predictions” resemble modern events and the mindset of many Americans. If you read the book, you know that I am not only talking about the Bail Out plan, but the general thought process of the nation itself, of the common person in the streets. I could try to relate her idea, but the best way I can think to do that, is to let her words speak for herself. So here a few of Ayn Rand’s words as Ayn Rand meant them. I think it is important to look at current economic situations and really, really think about them—which doesn’t seem to be happening. I see panic. I see finger pointing. I hear back peddling and maniacal laughter from Nancy Pelosi. But what I don’t hear are straight talk. So here are a few quotes by Ayn Rand that I think hit the issues, most specifically the economic issue surrounding the Bail Out bill, from both sides:

“We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force.”

“Inflation is not caused by the actions of private citizens, but by the government: by an artificial expansion of the money supply required to support deficit spending. No private embezzlers or bank robbers in history have ever plundered people’s savings on a scale comparable to the plunder perpetrated by the fiscal policies of statist governments”

“America’s abundance was created not by public sacrifices to the common good, but by the productive genius of free men who pursued their own personal interests and the making of their own private fortunes. They did not starve the people to pay for America’s industrialization. They gave the people better jobs, higher wages, and cheaper goods with every new machine they invented, with every scientific discovery or technological advance- and thus the whole country was moving forward and profiting, not suffering, every step of the way.”

Ayn Rand understood and presented everything clearly. People have attempted to debate her viewpoint, but it cannot be logically refuted, because it is correct.

Ayn Rand is my favorite author… and The Fountainhead is my favorite book. I just saw “Ayn Rand” in the today.com front page and had to comment.
